How to Measure Windows for Blinds?

How to Measure Your Windows for Blinds & Screens ?

Measuring your windows correctly is the first step to getting perfectly fitted blinds or screens. Whether you’re choosing roller blinds, zebra blinds, or motorised blinds, accurate measurements ensure a clean and professional fit. At Sun Window Blinds & Screens Inc., we always recommend professional measurement, but if you’d like to measure yourself, this guide will help you understand the basics.

Inside Mount Measurements

Inside mount blinds fit neatly inside the window frame and offer a clean, built-in look.

Steps:
• Measure the width at the top, middle, and bottom of the window. Use the smallest measurement.
• Measure the height on the left, center, and right side. Use the smallest measurement.
• Ensure a minimum depth of 2 inches inside the frame.

Tips:
• Measure to the nearest ⅛ inch
• Do not make any deductions
• Make sure there are no obstructions such as handles or trim

Outside mount blinds are installed outside the window opening and are ideal when the window frame does not have enough depth.

Steps:
• Measure the width of the area you want to cover and add at least 2 inches on each side.
• Measure the height from the top mounting point to where you want the blind to end.

Tips:
• Measure the full coverage area, not just the glass
• Ensure the mounting surface is flat and secure
• Round all measurements to the nearest ⅛ inch
